It is one of the 18 oddities in Yunnan to cook insects. But it's likely to upset newcomers to be treated with any of these ‘weird’ dishes. Ethnic minorities such as Hani, Dai, Jingpo and Deang in Honghe, Dehong and Xishuangbanna prefectures have been holding the insect-eating habit for a long time. Ant eggs, bamboo worms, grasshoppers, larvas, chrysalis and even golden spiders all can be prepared as delicacies. Unacceptable and maybe terrifying, these dishes surprisingly turn out to be nutritious and goluptious. And they normally go with liquor and wine though one needs any way courage to have a try when in Yunnan.
